My name is Akilah Winters. I am an award-winning journalist currently working at 11Alive as associate digital producer in Atlanta, GA. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Journalism from Florida A&M University. I recently won a Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GABBY) award for the best online breaking news coverage for coverage on a 2023 Midtown Atlanta shooting. I also won an award for the 2022 Sunshine State award Best Serious Feature category where I placed third for my "Tally 19: the Enduring Trauma of Revolution" article. I was born and raised in Key West, FL. I see myself as an individual who likes to create art and make it a part of my unique interpretation of life. In my journalistic career, I have written many articles for 11Alive and student media while in school. I interned at both IMPACT Strategies political advocacy firm, KTHV in Little Rock, a TEGNA station, and WCTV in Tallahassee. In my work, you will find many articles centered on making people aware of the issues that are going on in their community.
